Better health outcomes for an augmented reality gaming startup in Hyderabad

Hyderabad based Empower Labs is an augmented reality gaming start-up, one-of-its-kind in the Indian market. Being an industry pioneer, it is inevitable for the team to work under dynamic, challenging situations. Understanding the need to ensure holistic health and well-being of their employees, the top management led a company-wide initiative and signed up for NanoHealth’s corporate wellness program in December 2016. Entire team of 22 employees was enrolled under the program in December. The team has been growing since then and currently 31 employees are enrolled. It’s a relatively young team with an average age of 27 years. NanoHealth’s focus was to change their health and their lives from an early point.

Starting December 2016, health assessments are being organized at Empower Labs office premises every month. NanoHealth’s health coaches assess health of the employees using point-of-care diagnostics, questionnaire and technology-based intelligent health prediction system. Post screening, colour coded health status is made available to the employees on-the-spot followed by recommendations and counseling from health coaches and medical team (doctor, dietician etc.). Apart from scheduled health assessments, health coaches and the support team also ensure timely interventions to inculcate healthy behaviours amongst the team.

Success Metrics

In a short period of just six months, the changes were noteworthy in terms of considerable shifts in vital health statistics for the entire team. For some employees, there was a drastic change in health status from dangerous levels to healthier ones. Here are some interesting success metrics monitored for a team of 20 employees from December 2016 to May 2017

  • Average BMI levels dropped by 0.6%
  • Average blood pressure levels dropped by 20% (systolic) and 13% (diastolic)
  • As of May 2017, 96% of the employees have been maintaining normal blood pressure ranges and leading healthy lifestyles (as compared to 85% of employees in Dec 2016)

The commitment from the management team was tremendous in terms of helping their employees to rigorously follow the diet and lifestyle changes recommended by NanoHealth experts. Healthier snacks and lunch options have been included in the office pantry. Employee satisfaction levels have increased because of better health opportunities being provided to them. The more endearing fact is that not only did the employees adopt a healthier lifestyle, but they also acted as changes agents to help their spouse, parents, friends, kids etc. adopt healthier ways to life. The change NanoHealth brought was not just singular, but all encompassing and holistic.
